Help the Less Fortunate
Poverty. It’s a simple word that represents millions of people all over the world. Those less fortunate who can’t afford the luxury items that people with good income can. They need help and hope; we are the only people who can give them that!
We can and will eventually cure this epidemic called poverty, at least in America. By households in America to giving at least 2 canned foods to homeless shelters, we would have a good start on the cure for poverty.
This needs to happen so less poverty stricken people will die of starvation, just because they can’t afford food. Every household would only need to give 2 cans of food to homeless shelters once every month which isn't a hard task to accomplish. It costs about $1- $3 max monthly, and think of all the people that we would be helping! If every household in America gave 2 canned foods to homeless shelters, we would be feeding millions of people. Plus, there are many rich people in America who have millions of dollars and don’t help the poor, which I think is completely ridiculous! I mean, if you have the money put it to good use. Help the less fortunate!
Another reason why we need to donate to the poor is because of the satisfaction that both we and poverty stricken people will get from it. For us, we will feel good inside because we know that we helped save lives. It's sort of like when we open presents on Christmas or Hanukah. We feel good inside knowing someone thought enough of us to get us something. Homeless people will also get satisfaction from this law because they know that now, even if they don’t have money to buy much, there will always be food at shelters. For them it'll be Christmas or Hanukah everyday. Poverty stricken people will also have a newfound hope and believe that, since now they don’t have to worry about food, they can lead better lives.
Some people, though, believe that it is not our job to help the poor. Those people believe the government should provide the poor with food. Although, the US government is now proposing a budget cut, which according to SIRS, will cut off 18 million people from a much-needed food stream. I want you to think about if you were one of those people who couldn't eat anymore. Knowing that nothing warm and delicious will enter your stomach anymore. Knowing that your stomach will never be satisfied. It wouldn't be a good feeling, would it? If that isn't a good enough motive to help, then I don’t know what is. If the government isn’t taking action to help feed the poor, it’s time for us to step up to the opportunity!
Others will argue, “How do we know the food we're giving is actually going to the poor?” Well for one, how do homeless shelters know who is poor and needs to be fed? Exactly, they don’t, and come on, it’s food, not a million dollars you’re giving. If someone is pretending to be poor, they are looking for money and not food. Unfortunately, they are just greedy. Anyway, those people don’t typically get money. You don’t really see people pretending to be poor for food. I know I don't.
All in all, I strongly think that the American households should give at least 2 canned foods to homeless shelters. Everyone says we should end world hunger and this is the way to start. Let’s be the change we want to see in our world.
I like how you tied in your opinion and I really like how you ended with a quote.
ReplyDeleteYou made some very nice points. I am a firm believer in stopping world hunger by starting right here at home in St. Louis. My only disagreement with you is the donating the can goods to the homeless shelter. While they do obviously need food at the homeless shelter, the best place to donate food is the St. Louis Food Bank. They distribute food to the various food pantries and homeless shelters in the St. Louis area. Unfortunately in today's economy, the homeless are not the only ones going to bed hungry every night. There are more and more people turning to food pantries than ever before simply because they can not feed their families.
ReplyDeleteI guess the main thing is that whenever anyone says they want to make a change and try to galvinize others to do so as well, they fail to be the person who starts it.
ReplyDeleteA change has to start from yourself.
i liked it it was nice and kind i wish that law could happen so more people would be happy
